“Since we are far away from each other, let’s pretend we’re next to each other resting.”
-Sadie Hunter
I haven’t published anything lately. I’ve been writing but don’t have a complete post to share just yet. However, my dog has been writing! Please excuse her use of the passive voice.
A little background
I heard of (aka read, all over the internet) a seven-year-old girl in Wisconsin who has an inoperable brain tumor. She requested that dogs write her letters. It just so happens that writing runs in our family, so Sadie jumped at the chance to write to a new friend. Here is what she had to say:
Dear Emma,
Hello! My name is Sadie. My mom is writing this to you because I can’t seem to get my paws to type the letters I want to type! I press on the keyboard and lots and lots of letters show up on the page. I am sitting next to my mom, telling her everything I want to say to you. She asks me questions and when I groan, that means no. If I wag my tail or stretch, my answer is yes.
I am not a Wisconsin dog. In fact, I am not sure where Wisconsin is! It sounds far. I am a seven-year-old Labrador Retriever. I’m not sure why they call me that because I’ll only go and get the ball when it is thrown, one time. After that, the person who threw it should pick it up themselves, don’t you think?
I live in northern California with my human brother, sister, mom and dad. I have yellow hair so I think that makes me blonde. I’m shorter than most dogs like me but I don’t mind. Everyone else in my family is short too, so I’m just like the rest of my family.
My parents tell me they think I was a cat in my past life because I don’t like rain or any body of water really. If we are near a lake, I’ll stand on the edge and watch everyone else swim. I’ll get my paws wet, but that’s it.
When someone is sick in my house, I can usually tell so I sit by their bed and keep them company. Sometimes I’ll nap when they nap, and I snore a bit, I admit. Generally, I watch over whoever isn’t feeling well, to be sure they are okay.
Did you know dogs have really good hearing? Well, I do for sure! I heard you weren’t feeling well. Yes, I heard this all the way in California. If you were in my house, I’d probably be able to tell that you wanted to lay down, and I’d be right next to you. Since we are far away from each other, let’s pretend we’re next to each other resting. You’ll know I’m there because you’ll hear snoring.
I’m hoping you feel better soon.
-Your friend, Sadie
